Future Plans
I plan to attend Cabrillo College for two years, ideally earning an associate's degree in history. From there, I will then transfer to a four-year, most likely in New York or California, to double-major in history and education. I expect to take honors courses and courses in art, focusing on figure painting, portraiture, printmaking, and jewelry design. I also intend to take classes in environmental studies, environmental justice, horticulture, early childhood education, criminal justice, sustainability studies, ethnic studies, and so much more. While at a four-year university, I plan to study abroad for a semester to challenge my understanding of history through a non-American, non-Western perspective. It would also allow me to experience firsthand the effects of U.S. foreign policy and historical events on a specific region and culture, thus strengthening my comprehension. While continuing my education, my goal is to earn a teaching certification. I am passionate about education, teaching, and early childhood/adolescent learning development. As of right now, I want to teach either United States history to high schoolers or social studies to middle schoolers, because the subject matter is what I find most interesting. Middle and high school social studies/history classes are where I learned the most about the world, how people interact, and how to be socially/contextually aware. It’s where I learned how prejudice works, how to analyze sources and information critically, and how there are many perspectives on the same event. I want to help others understand those same things that impacted and shaped me as a person.
